Abstract: This research’s preposition is to reflect on the multiple plans of experiences that have mobilized
the Semana Cultural’s ritual developed over the few years, in occasion of the 19th April, in
indigenous lands (IL) in Brazil’s south region, expecially to Toldo Chimbangue Land, in
Chapeco, Santa Catarina. Since the Federal Constitution of 1988, indigenous people, motivated
by new acquired rights and the possibility to develop an inter-cultural education, a specifically
one as well as differentiated on, have organized cultural events at indigenous schools. Since
2000, cultural activities organized by teachers, students and indigenous communities have
allowed the Kaingang and Guarani to tell their histories and express their culture. This research
aimed to make an ethnography about the context and scenario of the meetings of the Kaingang,
Guarani and the general public in the event “Semana Cultural” as well as observe the
construction of narratives expressed by different groups in a context of interaction in which
exists a confrontation of visions and division of the world. During this research it was also
possible to follow the event’s organization. The understanding of ways of knowledge, in Barth’s
perspective (1987), guided the selection of diacritic marks in the construction and affirmations
of the Kaingang and Guarani identities. These processes expressed the negotiations of attributed
meaning to what is said to be Kaingang and Guarani ways of knowledge. We have also aimed
to understand the processes started by the organization of this event in what concerns the
defense and regulation of indigenous lands, in their search for full citizenship and in the results
of relations of distinction and cultural performance. The experiences lived by the Kaingang and
Guarani groups showed the readings and the new information of their traditions, that are marked
by a symbolic fight in the realm of “moral of knowledge”. Here the aim is the respect and the
recognition, in all distinctions, of the aspects that constitute them
