Abstract: The craft is an important cultural and economic activity of indigenous
communities in the Northwest region of the RS. In view of this, this study aimed to
evaluate the different processes that develop craft activity in the segment of the market,
developed by indigenous people in Kaingang indigenous land Guardhouse. The craft
activity in the village has intensified in recent periods in the same way that the number
of families who came to engage in this activity also increased in different forms
featuring an important process in the assertion of economic activity as a source for
these. The study sought to describe the different forms and processes that involve
dynamics and through knowledge of concepts and analogy mainly economic, ethnic
identity, cultural, socioeconomic solidarity, value added can make this characterization.
The study found significant and distinct information as the great satisfaction of families
with work activity while culture of an indigenous people as a form of expression and
manifestation with significant option for income generation and the need to establish
methodologies for value-added product as a form of empowerment for economic
character.

Abstract: The cattle industry is an important activity in the agribusiness world stage and location.
Developed in all states of the country has most of its production geared to domestic
consumption. The study sought to develop and qualify types of farmers linked to the
activity of cattle for the purpose of substantiating the development of programs and
policies for the sector. For the development of research used two management systems of
the State Department of Agriculture and Agribusiness - SEAPA, and a questionnaire in 83
randomly chosen properties between locations in São Luiz Gonzaga – Rio Grande do Sul.
Through descriptive and quantitative method deduced are three types of producers: Type I
1-30 cattle, representing 74.23% of the properties, size small to medium, and 20.10% of
cattle with the main purpose being milk or family maintenance, family labor and fairly
present the activity property for extra income supplementation; Type II 31-100 represents
16.49% of the properties, size medium to large, and 17.56% of cattle purpose basically
cutting, there is a good presence of hired labor, and holdings, develop in most other
activities to complement the income off the property; Type III more than 100 cattle,
representing 9.28% of properties, size large, and 62.34% of the herd for the purpose cattle,
this type of exploration is over the complete cycle, rather present the hired labor, and
generally associated with agriculture as a source of income from the property. The study
provided to identify the differences between the properties and production systems that
develop cattle in the county, the large concentration of cattle, the strong presence of pluri
and urban farmer. Also identified situations that can be supported by public policies, such
as improving productivity levels in dairy farming, genetic improvement and pastures,
analysis and correction of the grasslands, and conduct training on animal health with
farmers.

Abstract: The experiment was installed in a vegetable production unit in Santo Cristo, Rio
Grande do Sul State, Brazil. The study aimed to test different periods of soil solarization
outside the recommended time for solarization for efficient control of weeds in short time to
grow vegetables and the definition of the best solarization period for efficient control of
weeds outside the recommended time for solarization. Preference was given to an area with
serious problems with the infestation of weeds and with good solar radiation incidence.
Treatments were fitted with the following solarization periods: 0 days (control), 5, 10, 15, 20,
25 and 30 days. After 15 and 30 days from withdrawal of the transparent plastic 200 micron
(µm) used for solarization, were made a counting of the number of plants per square meter of
soil. Counting was performed by quadrants of 0.81m 2 (0.60m x 1.35m), arranged at three
random points in each plot. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design with
six replications. Data were subjected to variance analysis and means were compared by the
Scott-Knott test at 5% of error probability. Were also made adjustments regression of
temporal data. The 5 days solarization period was sufficient to achieve maximum efficiency
of solarization, not differing from the period of 30 days of solarization. In this work the high
temperatures that prevailed during solarization, associated with other mechanisms, such as
soil moisture before the installation of plastic were sufficient to reduce the viability of weed
seeds, resulting in a lesser population of these species in solarized soil compared to non-
solarized.

Abstract: The work aims to analyze the contribution of technical assistance and rural extension
developed by the Cooperativa Mista dos Fumicultores do Brasil Ltda Santa Cruz do Sul for
rural development in the region. The cooperative project is running production diversification
in tobacco cultivated areas in partnership with the Ministry of Agrarian Development,
contributing to the sustainability of rural areas. This is a case study tringing together
documents of the cooperative, information about the practices of the ATER Cooperfumos. At
the same time, also made a survey that the actions of developed ATER provided alternative
ways to diversify production.
