Abstract: This work aimed to analyze the natural disasters that occurred in the Cantuquiriguaçu Territory, between 1995 and 2023 and their consequences in terms of human damage and financial losses. To achieve this objective, data were extracted from various public databases, such as the Digital Atlas of Disasters in Brazil, the Paraná Institute of Economic and Social Development (IPARDES), the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), and the FIRJAN Municipal Development Index (IFDM). The study used a qualitative methodology, and the results indicated that the region is highly vulnerable to natural disasters, especially meteorological events such as storms, droughts, and floods. The social fragility of the municipalities, such as poor sanitation and low income, serves as an aggravating factor in the face of extreme events, which can hinder their recovery. Furthermore, it was observed that economic losses and human damage did not occur in a similar way among the municipalities. Based on the literature used, it is possible to infer that planetary pressure, caused by the way productive activities are organized, may be intensifying climate change and natural disasters. The study emphasizes the urgent need for municipalities to be attentive and prepared for natural disasters through public policies and economic, social, and environmental planning, with the aim of mitigating the impacts caused by disasters, especially in more vulnerable locations.

Abstract: The Atlantic Forest is recognized as one of the most biodiverse biomes in the world and harbors a rich and highly endemic avifauna, with species that play essential ecological roles and are sensitive to habitat alterations. This sensitivity makes birds excellent bioindicators of environmental quality, especially in landscapes under intense anthropogenic pressure, such as urban and peri-urban areas. Within this context, the municipality of Realeza (PR), located in the Atlantic Forest biome, presents a territorial configuration that combines expanding urban areas and peri-urban zones with remnants of native vegetation, making it a suitable setting for ecological studies. Therefore, this study aimed to characterize and compare bird species richness and abundance between urban and peri-urban areas in Realeza, Paraná, and to assess the influence of tree cover on the local bird community. Ten fixed points (five in each environment) were sampled through direct visual observations and photographic records, carried out over ten non-consecutive days during the summer of 2025, in January and February. Each point was observed for 15 minutes per day, with alternating time slots. Tree cover was estimated using satellite imagery in QGIS software, within a 50-meter radius around each point, and the resulting values were used as predictor variables in generalized linear models (GLMs). Species richness and sampling sufficiency were evaluated using the Chao1 estimator. In total, 1,438 individuals were recorded, distributed across 39 species in the peri-urban area and 36 in the urban area. Despite the slight numerical difference in species count, statistical models indicated that neither the environment type nor tree cover significantly influenced species richness or abundance. The similarity between areas may be related to the short distance between sampling points, ecological connectivity, and the presence of generalist species adaptable to different environments. The results contribute to the understanding of regional bird diversity and reinforce the importance of long-term studies for better understanding the effects of urbanization on avian biodiversity in the municipality.

Abstract: Nycthemeral Variation of Water Quality in a Rainwater Harvesting Reservoir: The construction of reservoirs to collect rainwater can be an effective alternative, especially in urban areas, as they allow for the storage and conservation of water for varying periods, depending on use and evaporation rate. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the water quality of a newly constructed rainwater harvesting reservoir during its variation throughout the nycthemeral cycle, considering physical, chemical, and biological parameters. Four samples were collected during the summer at two points in the reservoir on a weekly basis. The physical and chemical analyses of the water were compared with the values recommended by CONAMA Resolution 357/05 for Class II freshwater. During the period, aquatic invertebrates were collected from the reservoir banks, with these collections occurring weekly, but only at one time of day. Invertebrates were classified using the BMWP (Biological Monitoring Working Party), which assigns weights to each family according to their tolerance and sensitivity to pollution. The results indicated that pH, dissolved oxygen, and phosphorus showed discrepancies with the values of CONAMA Resolution 357/05 in at least one of the samples. Nitrite levels were high in all samples; however, ammonia remained within permitted limits. Temperature remained high during the monitoring period, especially in shallow lakes in open areas. The BMWP index indicated water quality of "very critical," "critical," and "doubtful." Thus, the results show that the morphology of the environment exerts a significant influence on water quality, since it is a recently altered environment with little structure and in a phase of formation.

Abstract: This study investigated the perceptions and practices of teachers at the Independência Municipal School regarding Environmental Education (EE), with the aim of identifying potentialities and challenges for its effective implementation in the school context. A qualitative approach was used, with the application of a questionnaire and content analysis (Bardin, 1977), based on critical references of EE. The results indicated that teachers recognize the importance of EE for the formation of conscious, responsible and engaged students, highlighting values such as preservation, responsibility and youth protagonism. However, a predominance of specific practices was observed, focusing on informative and behavioral actions, and gaps in the integration of ethical, critical and social themes, such as environmental justice and social inequality. The responses highlighted limitations in the initial and continuing education of teachers, especially regarding the mastery of participatory, interdisciplinary and contextualized methodologies, in addition to lack of knowledge or superficial approach to public policies and national guidelines for EE. In response to these challenges, an informative pamphlet was prepared and returned to the school with suggestions for teaching strategies to support the integration of EE into the curriculum. The discussion points to the need to strengthen teacher training, promote dialogue between theory and practice, and encourage the active participation of the entire school community, consolidating EE as a space for ethical dialogue, critical reflection, and transformative action. It is concluded that the advancement of EE in schools depends on the institutional commitment to ongoing teacher training, support for pedagogical innovation, and the appreciation of EE as a transversal and integrative axis, contributing to the formation of citizens capable of facing contemporary environmental and social challenges.
