Abstract: COVID-19 is a disease that emerged in Asia in late 2019 and, in just a few months, became the pandemic of the century. Given the importance of this pathology for global health, this study, produced by Igor Rodrigues de Paula and Ítalo Giordane dos Santos, explores the respiratory evolution of critically ill patients who were hospitalized with the disease in an intensive care unit (ICU). Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze the ventilatory parameters of patients before and after tracheostomy, in order to find significant statistical variations that can be used to improve treatment. Methodology: This analysis was performed by collecting data from the medical records of 112 patients at the Hospital Regional São Paulo, in Xanxerê-SC, with subsequent statistical analysis of 91 patients, performed with the aid of the R project software application version 4.5.0 for Windows. The bibliographies used for the theoretical development of the work include official websites of tracheostomy protocols and articles from databases (SCIELO, PUBMED and LILACS). Results: The results showed a statistically significant variation in five of the six parameters analyzed, with the main variations being in the comparison between 1 day before and 5 days after tracheostomy. In addition, there were significant variations between males and females. Discussion: The study was in line with the literature, showing that the use of tracheostomy is a means to improve the ventilatory parameters of critically ill patients in the ICU, facilitating ventilatory weaning. In addition, the study has limitations that should be resolved in future studies. Conclusion: The results suggest that tracheostomy is a promising therapeutic option for the evolution of ventilatory interruptions in critically ill patients with COVID-19, as it improves ventilation and reduces dead space over the days following the procedure.

Abstract: Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of female mortality worldwide and represents the fourth most common cause of cancer-related death among women in Brazil. The periodic performance of Pap smear tests (cervical cytology) is the most widely adopted strategy in the country for the screening of this type of cancer. This study aims to characterize the profile of patients with cytopathological abnormalities identified in Pap smear tests performed at the Rede Feminina de Combate ao Câncer de Chapecó-SC health institution in 2023. This is an observational, retrospective, and cross-sectional study. The data were extracted from the Cancer Information System (SISCAN) and include information on the sociodemographic, clinical, and cytopathological profiles of patients with cellular atypia. The research revealed that 9,977 cytopathological exams were performed, among which 205 showed cellular atypia. The main reason for undergoing the cytological exams was cancer screening, with the highest percentage of abnormalities found in women aged 21 to 50 years (76.4%), and a predominance of white women. Clinically, the variables statistically associated with age were the use of oral contraceptives, the frequency of exam performance, and a history of radiotherapy treatment. Regarding the cytopathological results, low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL) were the most frequent findings among women, predominantly in the 21 to 30-year age group. Highgrade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) were more common in women aged 21 to 40 years, reinforcing the importance of regular screening. The ASC/SIL ratio was approximately 0.67, a value within the recommended range, which supports the consistency of the diagnostic findings, although it may suggest a tendency toward overinterpretation of nonspecific cytological changes. Finally, it is noteworthy that current literature aligns with most of the results obtained in this study. However, further research is needed to overcome its limitations and to improve cervical cancer prevention strategies in the municipality.

Abstract: Introduction: Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is an intervention used for menopausal women to control the symptoms associated with the physiological modifications presented during this phase. Hysterectomy is a procedure that causes an increased risk for cardiovascular diseases (CVD) when compared to non-hysterectomized women. The effects of HRT over the biomarkers in CVD in this group of women at higher risk have not been well defined. Objective: Summarize the results of randomized controlled trials (RCT) evaluating the effects of HRT on the biomarkers in CVD of hysterectomized menopausal women. Methods: A systematic review following the PRISMA model and registered in the PROSPERO platform was developed, evaluating RCT selected from the scientific bases PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Results: 7 articles were included for analysis, demonstrating a rise in the levels of HDL and reduction of the levels of LDL, total cholesterol, glucose, insulin, and fibrinogen of patients; maintenance or rise in the levels of CRP and inconclusive findings regarding BP alterations. Conclusion: HRT can offer important benefits for the cardiovascular status of this group of patients and must be prescribed according to each patient's needs and characteristics.

Abstract: Introduction: Primary Health Care (PHC) is the gateway to Brazil’s Unified Health System and plays a fundamental role in ensuring comprehensive and equitable care, especially in small municipalities. Objective: To analyze the planning of PHC service delivery in small municipalities in the western region of Santa Catarina. Methodology: This descriptive, applied qualitative study was conducted through semi-structured interviews with municipal health managers and other professionals working in PHC in three selected municipalities. The collected data were analyzed using content analysis, which allowed the identification of patterns, challenges, and strategies in the local PHC management and planning process. Results: The management and planning process in small municipalities is influenced not only by the skills of the managers but also by numerous challenges associated with heavy community demands, the health issues characteristic of each area, and access to resources. Thus, ensuring effective and high-quality PHC organization requires both technical and human knowledge of not only the local context but also the community at large. The social relevance of this research lies in supporting improvements in public health management in small municipalities, contributing to enhanced efficiency, quality, and equity in PHC services and, consequently, to better health outcomes in the community.
