Abstract: In the proposal of this collaborative research, in dialogue and partnership with the Kaingang, we will seek to record and remember the history of one of the Old Trunks of the Chimbangue Toldo, a memory of struggle, love, hope, and a strong legacy of resistance for his family and his group. Known as Old Mother, Maria Celestrina Rodrigues, one of the kofá (gradma) of the Kaingang of Toldo Chimbangue, was born on June 29, 1929, on the Chapada, in Toldo Pinhal, of Seara, SC. She was on the front line of the struggle for the demarcation of indigenous Reservation , in defense of her rights and her group, alongside other personalities who succeeded in their efforts, and are remembered and exalted by the Kaingang to this day. We know the story of the Old Mom in the teaching experience in the Toldo Chimbangue Indigenous Reservation a few months ago. The insertion in this environment was very rewarding, the coexistence with the community and the follow-up in their day-to-day was and is a very encouraging task. Empathy and appreciation developed in the relationships established with people and with that place. Indigenous culture is closely related to teaching work in Indigenous History and Culture classes. We established dialogues with members of the community and with the Kaingang elders, with the intention of improving the classes, and substantiating a knowledge construction guided by ancestral knowledge. In one of the classes with the 7th year students we researched the importance of ancestry in the Chimbangue Toldo. To this end, he wondered: "Who are the Old Trunks of Chimbangue?" This episode revealed a multitude of stories that have not yet been recorded. One of the foundations of research on Kaingang history and culture are the elders who constitute guardians of the history and memory of the group. In order to remember these narratives, specifically that of the Old Mom we thought of building an anthropological collaborative research in partnership with the Kaingang group, since Maria Celestrina Rodrigues is referenced as a living library of the Kaingang people of Toldo Pinhal and Toldo Chimbangue.

Abstract: This undergraduate thesis aims to analyze the institutional framework of the Chapecó Guardianship Council, based on its organization and composition following the 2023 elections. According to Article 131 of the Statute of the Child and Adolescent (ECA), the Guardianship Council is a permanent and autonomous, non-jurisdictional body responsible for ensuring the enforcement of the rights of children and adolescents. Thus, it is tasked with implementing social policies aimed at protecting and guaranteeing these rights. Members of the council are chosen by the community every four years through direct, indirect elections or by acclamation. The 2023 Guardianship Council elections reflected the national political polarization between the far right and progressives, as seen in the 2018 and 2022 presidential elections. Considering these factors, this research aims to achieve the following specific objectives: (i) to investigate the history of the Guardianship Council and its role in guaranteeing the rights of children and adolescents; (ii) to contextualize the creation of the Guardianship Council in Chapecó, its duties, and organizational structure; (iii) to describe the context of the 2023 guardianship council elections; (iv) to analyze the composition of the 2023 Chapecó Guardianship Council. To achieve these objectives, we employed methodologies such as document analysis, case study, and literature review. The document analysis was carried out using internal regulations of the CMDCA (Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents), regional and national newspaper articles related to the topic, and candidate presentation videos. The case study is set in the municipality of Chapecó, SC, focusing on the participatory institution and institutional design of the Guardianship Council in the 2023 elections. The literature review was conducted using specific keywords in the Capes Journals database, as well as the repositories of the Community University of the Chapecó Region (UNOCHAPECO), the Federal University of the Southern Frontier (UFFS), and the University of the West of Santa Catarina (UNOESC). Data were also collected from the websites of the Chapecó City Hall and the Regional Electoral Court of Santa Catarina (TRE-SC).

Abstract: In this research, we will address the indigenous issue in the newspapers of Santa Catarina, employing a qualitative methodological approach. Through the pages of the state's news outlets, we will analyze articles that highlight the construction of the ideology and stereotypes that spread about the indigenous peoples of the Western region during a specific historical period, from 1983 to 1984. The analyzed materials consist of newspapers from the archives of the Centro de Memória do Oeste de Santa Catarina (CEOM) and the Hemeroteca Digital da Biblioteca Nacional. Data collection was carried out using keywords, which served as guides for better results. The choice of this date range is motivated by its correspondence with the period when the Kaingang of Toldo Chimbangue in the city of Chapecó were predominantly advocating for the demarcation of their territory. The role and importance of the media in the construction of such representations become one of the pillars of this research, as it is a significant instrument in characterizing social environments and social actors themselves. Throughout the study, the colonialism's challenges in Brazilian society were presented. We also highlighted the specific colonizing process of the region, illustrating the main fronts of expansion that contributed to the expropriation of indigenous territories. In addition to articles related to local Kaingang issues, we also analyzed other pieces that addressed the theme at the national level. It was observed that the agenda of indigenous peoples was not a priority for lawmakers and government officials. The articles indicate that the Chapecó society criticized advocates of the indigenous cause extensively. A perspective was created in which the Kaingang were seen as the cause of the problem, rather than victims of the colonial expropriation process. Overall, it can be observed that they were often treated in a highly ethnocentric manner, guided by an evolutionist worldview.
