Abstract/Resumen: Forests are essential both for protecting wildlife and for maintaining the balance of the carbon cycle on the planet. The objective of this study is to estimate the aboveground forest biomass and carbon stock in a 2.31-hectare forest fragment of Floresta Ombrófila Mista, located at the University Federal of Fronteira Sul (UFFS), Erechim Campus, RS. Through a forest inventory using indirect methods and allometric equations, all individuals with circumference at breast height (CAP) equal to or greater than 15 cm were sampled. The survey recorded 625 individuals distributed among 45 species and 26 botanical families, highlighting a community at an advanced stage of regeneration, with an average diameter at breast height (DAP) of 26 cm and an average height of 13 m. The species Sebastiania commersoniana (branquilho), Casearia sylvestris (chá-de-bugre), and Allophylus edulis (chal-chal) stood out in abundance, reflecting the disturbance history of the area, which served as pastureland until 2010. The total aboveground biomass was estimated at 233.088 tons, resulting in a carbon stock of 116.544 tons. It is concluded that, despite historical anthropogenic interventions, the fragment plays a significant ecological role as a carbon sink and in the conservation of regional biodiversity, and especially as an area for education, contemplation, leisure and gathering for the academic community of UFFS.

Abstract/Resumen: Simulids (Diptera: Simuliidae), commonly known as black flies, are a group of insects of public health importance due to the blood-feeding habits of the females and the impacts of their bites on humans and animals. Biological control using Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (Bti) stands out as a selective alternative with less environmental impact compared to conventional chemical insecticides. In this context, the present study aimed to compare the efficacy of two commercial Bti-based formulations, VectoBac 12AS and CRYSTAR XT, in controlling Simuliidae larvae in two streams in the municipality of Erechim, Rio Grande do Sul. Four experimental applications were conducted, and larval mortality was monitored at nine collection points distributed along each stream, 24 hours after exposure to the products. The results showed that VectoBac 12AS was more effective, achieving mortality rates of 53.4% and 72.4%, while CRYSTAR XT achieved mortality rates of 15.8% and 37.4%. Spatial analysis of the data indicated that hydrological factors, such as flow rate, the presence of tributaries, and water flow dynamics, influenced the distribution of the larvicide and the efficiency of control. It is concluded that VectoBac 12AS performed better under the evaluated conditions, demonstrating greater potential for use in simuliid management programs in the municipality of Erechim, Rio Grande do Sul.

Abstract/Resumen: Microbial bioinputs have emerged as a sustainable alternative to conventional chemical inputs, contributing to the reduction of environmental impacts and to the advancement of sustainable agriculture. However, the effectiveness of these products depends on maintaining microbial viability during storage, which is influenced by factors such as formulation, temperature, and protective technologies. In this context, the present study aimed to analyze, through a systematic literature review, the main factors related to the viability, stability, and shelf life of microbial bioinputs. Searches were conducted in the Web of Science and Scopus databases, considering publications from the last ten years. After applying the eligibility criteria, 15 articles were selected for inclusion in the review. The studies demonstrated that moderate or low storage temperatures favored the maintenance of microbial viability, whereas higher temperatures accelerated viability loss. In addition, strategies such as encapsulation, osmoprotectants, carrier agents, and different formulation types contributed to increasing microbial stability and extending product shelf life. The findings also showed that there is no universally superior formulation, as its performance varies according to the microorganism and storage conditions. It is concluded that maintaining the microbiological quality of bioinputs depends on the interaction between formulation, protective technologies, and storage conditions, highlighting the need for standardized viability assessment methods and the development of new strategies to further improve product stability.

Abstract/Resumen: The growing demand for sustainable processes has increased interest in the production of microbial enzymes with potential industrial and environmental applications. This study evaluated the production of amylase and cellulase enzymes by the fungus Trichoderma koningiopsis in an Airlift bioreactor. The fungal extract was obtained via submerged fermentation in a defined culture medium, with samples collected at 24 and 48 hours. The results demonstrated high enzymatic production, especially during the first 24 hours, highlighting the biotechnological potential of the fungus. The highest activity was observed for amylase, whereas cellulase remained stable throughout the fermentation process. The Airlift bioreactor proved efficient for enzyme production due to its adequate oxygen transfer, lower mechanical stress on fungal mycelium, and its potential for industrial-scale up. Therefore, the obtained results demonstrate the potential of Trichoderma koningiopsis for applications in sustainable bioprocesses, plant biomass biodegradation, and the development of bioproducts associated with the circular economy.
