A terreira Pai Oxalá: uma abordagem da umbanda na cidade de Seara - SC

Abstract

Through the methodology of participant research, the present study purposes to analyze the Umbanda, the general understand what Umbanda religion initially was, how it arose and how it is configured in Brazilian territory nowadays. In sequence, we entered in the universe of the terreira Pai Oxalá located in the city of Seara – SC, the main approach of our research. Seen that in this space there is a strong presence of the colonization of migrants and immigrants, Italian, Germany and Slavs. The terreira Pai Oxalá count with participants of different ethnicities realizing their ritual all the Friday nights, revealing us how in this religion there is religious syncretism, and also seen that Umbanda utilizes a lot of Kardecists and Catholics aspects in their rituals. The method applied to realize the approach was the participant research because being daily in the terreira, we can understand how occur the giras, the sessions, the dogmas and insignia of this religious space. In general, terms the research showed that this religious spaces, as an example our theme, being those with African aspects in their fundaments, or those with Christian Strand, are still very little diffused. These different religions are present in main spaces of European colonization, still have the need to be more studied, and its various internal aspects deserves a more cautious and continuous work, seen as we work with people and their religious expressions, as they can be in continuous change.
