Abstract: | From the 1930s to the mid-1945s, the world experienced, under the leadership of Adolf Hitler, an effervescence of Nazi ideologies that reached their apex with the systematic extermination of millions of Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, among others. Brazil, during the same period, had the Vargas government, which in a given period shared these ideals, and later joined the allied cause. Through mass propaganda, both established themselves in power and spread their ideals. This paper aims to analyze the propaganda spread during the period and the fundamental role it played in legitimizing actions against German immigrants in Brazil, with an emphasis on the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Through the observation and analysis of the propaganda divulged in the media communication of the period - newspapers and radios - and based on the writings of Ana Maria Dietrich, René Gertz and others, will be observed the methods used to manipulate the feelings of the population to the point of justifying and legitimizing actions considered improper in other times. To this end, the discussion will involve the formative aspects of the nationalist ideal and its dangers, the instruments used for its propagation, and the fundamental role of the press in disseminating mass ideologies, presenting the social movements resulting from these actions. |
