Uma análise das estratégias de adesão ao cultivo da soja no oeste catarinense através do Jornal da Produção (1973-1978)

Abstract

This academic work has as its objective to understand the methods of persuasion and convincing utilized to make it so that farmers would adhere to the cultivation of the soya bean, seeking to substitute the, until then, predominant cultures of corn and wheat. Methodologically, we shall make use of one of the characteristics of Ambiental History, which uses a great variety of bibliographical fonts that are utilized to study the relations between societies and their respective environments, be those fonts written, oral or visual. The analysis is made using as a bibliographical font the Jornal da Produção, which circulated in the state of Santa Catarina between the years of 1973 to 1980 and seeked for rural extension. With help from the newspaper, we are looking to understand the ways by which this media made its representation of the soya bean. By the means of analysing the newspaper, it's possible to understand which individuals or groups had interest in the production of the soya bean, being them agronomist engineers, cooperatives or government politics that encouraged the planting. As part of the convincing, news that would feature the soya bean as the fundamental grain to bring development to the western region of Santa Catarina and as a way of increasing the productivity and quality of the soil were used by the newspaper. The good prices and the favorable market for exportation resulted in a good strategy for the expansion of the production of the soya bean in the west of Santa Catarina through the years of 1973 to 1978.
