Educação sexual na escola: tabus, preconceitos e desafios formativos para professores

Abstract

Talking about the body and sexuality in the family and school environment is a challenging task due to the taboos and social prejudices about the theme. And because of this silencing, it often causes adolescents to search for information in various media, not always finding the appropriate information. However, the legislation and guidelines of the educational system determine that the school addresses this issue pedagogically, as it is part of human development and formation, and considering all dimensions that constitute sexuality as: biological, psychological, historical, ethics. And to contribute to guaranteeing basic rights to all, such as health, information and knowledge, fundamental elements for the formation of responsible citizens aware of their abilities. The research was carried out in the municipality of Ampére at the Nereu Perondi and Cecília Meireles State Colleges, with the objective of investigating the formative needs of teachers on the subject of sexual education in high school daily life. Based on a qualitative approach, the research was conducted through questionnaires, provided to all teachers working in high school. Concerning questions about academic background, it was found that the vast majority of teachers demonstrate that they did not have a specific education on sex education and even less how to work with students. Referring to continuing education on the subject, it may be contributing to reflect on the importance of sexuality education in the formation of students, but it seems to be insufficient for the teacher to work with the dynamics of the classroom around the issues of sexuality. It is important to consider that sex education should be conducted in order to build knowledge, in which the adolescent does not feel repressed in exposing their doubts or frustrated in the expectation of wellfounded answers. For such a challenge, a good initial and continuous teacher training is fundamental.
