Ressignificações e presença do monge João Maria de Jesus nas práticas populares de cura no Oeste de Santa Catarina

Abstract

The arts of healing can be performed in different ways, but understanding that these practices are part of a historical and social process is to bring to the reflection a whole debate on the importance given to the procedure of popular medicine, which is based on different forms of achievement, including the use of medicinal plants and especially faith. It is in this context that what is presented will follow, seeking to conduct a dialogue between the use of medicinal plants and faith in the Monge São João Maria. Their practices were and are important to understand the current practices carried out, based on the sacred view of the use of prayer plants and blessings inherited from these characters. In this sense, it is intended to seek similarities, differences, marks, traces, presence or absence of practices attributed to the monk João Maria de Jesus, in his context of action between the late nineteenth and early twentieth century and possible dialogues with the practices current in this field today.
