Contestando o Contestado: um olhar Benjaminiano sobre "geração do deserto", de Guido Wilmar Sassi

Abstract

The literature of Santa Catarina is vast and rich, and, curiously, strongly tied to historical memory, since most writers in this state address cultural and local issues in their works. Geração do Deserto of the Guido Wilmar Sassi is another important example of literature from southern Brazil, because it deals with literature as art and expression of feelings and thoughts linked to cultural history through the marks of the Contestado War. Therefore, the object of study focuses on the relationship between literature and history. The thesis is structured in three chapters: the first one situates the work Geração do Deserto – text that makes up the corpus of analysis and draws a parallel to the War; the second and the third seek to analyze the work from the point of view of Benjamin's theories. starting with The theses on the Concept of history and closing with The Narrator: Considerations on Nikolai Leskov.
