Caracterização de sedimentos turfosos em uma seção colunar na ESEC da Mata Preta, Abelardo Luz (SC)

Abstract

The Quaternary Period for being the most recent of the Cenozoic Era, having its beginning 2.58 million years ago, in which great climate changes occurred, keeps the record of these changes in the stratigraphic record and provide us with one of the forms of study them, through the stratigraphy. This work has as main objective to characterize the peat sediments present in a columnar section in the Ecological Station of Mata Preta, fostering the advances of the research for the paleoenvironmental understanding of the area in which this section is located. The samples were analyzed at the Geology Laboratory of the Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul, Campus Chapecó, in order to establish the physical and chemical parameters, identifying: color, granulometric fractions and organic content. The results obtained in this research reveal that there are two peatlands present at this point of testimony, leading us to have expansion of knowledge about peatlands in the region of upper Uruguay and its relations with climate change occurred in the Quaternary.
