Do rio ao reservatório: transformações socioambientais a partir da Usina Hidrelétrica Foz do Chapecó (1970-2014)

Abstract

The aim of this work is to contribute to studies related to the socio-environmental changes experienced by residents of the regions impacted by the construction of the dam in the city of Águas de Chapecó (SC). It is considered relevant to clarify these issues, which can and should be analysed for the benefit of scientific-academic knowledge and the community in general. In this dissertation, priority will be given to studies of facts related to socio-environmental change. To this end, we propose an analysis based on the theoretical framework of Environmental History. The periods analysed are especially those covering the years 1970 to 2014, the context of the first studies into the technical feasibility and government incentives for creating hydroelectric dams, privatisation and reformulation of the electricity sector, implementation of the Foz do Chapecó Hydroelectric Plant on the Uruguay River and the 2014 flood that hit the small town of Águas de Chapecó (SC).
