Abstract

Gender transition during adolescence is not an isolated phenomenon, but a catalytic event that reconfigures the dynamics of care and affection within the family unit. At the heart of this transformation, the father figure emerges as a critical element, balancing traditional constructions of masculinity with the need to embrace their children's gender identity. This research delves into the characteristics of this intersection, aiming to promote and develop Patient and Family-Centered Care (PFCC) strategies directed at fathers of adolescents with Gender Incongruence (GI). The study proposed a departure from purely clinical approaches, focusing instead on the humanization of the transition process.The research was conducted through the lens of a qualitative interpretative investigation, grounded in the pillars of PFCC. The study setting included 14 fathers linked to the UNA LGBT/Chapecó network, residing in Santa Catarina, Brazil. Data collection prioritized the comfort and authenticity of the reports, occurring in locations chosen by the participants. A semi-structured questionnaire was utilized, alongside Family Assessment Instruments the Genogram and Ecomap as an innovative approach to understanding support networks. Field immersion was recorded in a reflective field diary titled "Between being a son and being a researcher," which allowed for an autoethnographic analysis of fatherhood narratives. Interviews were transcribed with the assistance of Artificial Intelligence (TurboScribe) and verified by the researcher. Following this, a Reflexive Thematic Analysis was performed, utilizing MAXQDA® software for detailed coding. The analysis yielded the central theme “Care Dimensions of Fathers,” structured into nine subthemes based on the domains of PFCC: Dignity and Respect; Information Sharing; Participation; and Collaboration. From these subjective experiences, 15 nursing diagnoses were identified based on the NANDA-I taxonomy, serving as the foundation for proposing customized nursing interventions.The findings of this investigation reiterate and substantiate the premise that nursing care for transgender individuals and their families must transcend the purely biological dimension. Through paternal narratives and the analysis of support networks, the research highlights the urgency of an Advanced Practice Nursing that moves into the realms of subjectivity and social justice. By integrating the rigor of the NANDA-I taxonomy with the sensitivity of PFCC, this study consolidates a strategic roadmap for nurses seeking to act as facilitators of human dignity, demonstrating that clinical competence is inseparable from ethical and relational competence in contexts of diversity.
