| Title: | Fazenda São João: liberdade condicionada, testamento e trajetória dos ex-cativos |

| Resume: | A busca pela liberdade esteve presente durante os quase quatro séculos de escravidão no Brasil, podendo ser alcançada de diversas formas, entre elas a alforria. Em nossa pesquisa, trabalhamos inicialmente com duas fontes primárias: a Carta de Alforria e o Testamento deixados pelo senhor Matheus José de Souza e Oliveira e sua esposa Pureza Emília da Silva. A Carta é datada de 20 de janeiro de 1866, e registra a alforria de forma condicionada aos seus escravos. No Testamento realizado em 1877, os senhores destacam a alforria de alguns libertos, dão liberdade a outros cativos e deixam a eles um terço das terras da Fazenda São João, Distrito de Campos Novos/SC. Através destas fontes evidenciamos as negociações em torno da liberdade. Além disso, através de fontes eclesiásticas e cartoriais reunimos informações dos descendentes de africanos que foram escravizados na referida fazenda e traçamos a trajetória de alguns de seus familiares ao longo do século XX. |
| Abstract: | There were many ways to achieve freedom during the almost four centuries of slavery in Brazil. One of them is emancipation. On this work we focused on two main historical sources: The emancipation charter and the will left by Matheus José de Souza e Oliveira and his wife Pureza Emília da Silva. The charter was written on January 20th 1866 and registers a conditional emancipation to his slaves. On the will written in 1877 they highlight the emancipation of some of the freed slaves, set free other slaves and leave to them one third of the lands of São João farm, district of Campos Novos/SC. These sources reveal us the negotiations on freedom. Besides, by means of ecclesiastical and notarial sources we were able to gather information about the African descendants slaved on the mentioned farm and to trace the path of some of his family members along the 20th century. |
