Abstract

ìAround the spindle: wisdom lessons with OlÌvia and Anaî has the goal of establishing a dialogue of the life experiences of the two characters, introduced respectively in Erico Verissimoís Behold the Lilies of the Field (1938) and Continent I (1949). The spindle as meeting point of these two women, who sit to speak about their own lives, lives which only exist in the literary aspect, but here, as objects of this essay, are taken as an ordinary life. They make confidences and build themselves, and give us important advices. OlÌvia is sweet and determined; she loves, but is capable of waiving love due to a greater cause. She defends that in order to be happy, money and success are not enough. Solidary, altruistic and generous, she deals with conflicts with faith and comprehension, with the absolute belief that the destiny will find ways to rescue the human being lot in each being. Ana Terra is synonymous of strength and intensity. She loves and surrenders herself body and soul, she knows no limits. She fights against the destiny, resists with bravery, and has the answer for her anguishes in the time, a time that goes by without mention to faith or transcendence, but with the certainty that it will come to correct the roughness of life. OlÌvia and Ana meet at the difference, each one sews in their own way with the thread of Ariadne, an intuitive element, so common between women, that will lead to the final point, in their case, love must also be associated with death.
