O anticomunismo católico e suas representações no jornal Correio Riograndense no ano de 1945

Abstract

This monograph intends to examine all the anticommunist representations in a Catholic newspaper called Correio Riograndense, in 1945. This periodic had its headquarters in Garibaldi-RS city and belonged to the Capuchin Minor Friars Order. In Brazil, the year of 1945 was significant because there was an instauration of a new democratic system due to post-war influences. As a result, there was a call for general elections and the establishment of a multiparty system, which resulted in a political opening for the legality and recognition of the Partido Comunista Brasileiro (PCB), party that has developed a large political activity and managed to climb a large number of affiliates across the country. In this context, the Catholic newspaper, Correio Riograndense, served as the main disseminator of negative representations of the communist "enemy", materialized by the party, because the church had to combat this threat. Therefore, it is important to note that the anticommunist representations that will be analyzed in this study were used as an elective strategy to break the influence of the PCB in the country. To develop this work, it was used the Catholic newspaper and literature available on the subject.
