Esporte Clube Treze de Maio: associativismo negro em Erechim

Abstract

This work comes to the study on part of the black population in the city of Erechim through the establishment and functioning of Esporte Clube Treze de Maio, founded on December 16, 1949. The local historiography has devoted little attention to this issue, with only one work of breathless over black people, reason whereby we conducted this work. The central question of this research is to examine whether the associationbecame an important social space for black people collaborating in the formation of identity and appreciation of the group. Through the analyzed sources, we present the associative network created in the city from each ethnicity and the reasons which led to the formation of a club for black people. When outlining the first steps of Esporte Clube Treze de Maio and understanding their formation within the society, we investigated the process of social invisibility experienced by this part of the population and the mechanisms used to circumvent this situation. We seek to understand the establishment of strict rules of behavior imposed on goers and how they contributed to form an image about the club and its members.
