Abstract

The debates on local development have increasing over the past years and talk about the theme today inevitably refers to the role of Micro and Small enterprises, since they imply an important activity mainly in regions distant from the large centers. The Micro and Small enterprises represent the majority of the enterprises of the formal in Brazil and stand out in many guises, contributing particularly to the development of municipalities. To speaking in local development it is important to look for economic and social situation existing in local spaces, identify in which foundations it is sustained. Within this context the aim of this study has to analyze the contribution of Micro and Small Enterprises for the development of the municipality of Cerro Largo /RS. To this end, we performed a descriptive research and qualitative in nature, analyzing all the 601 Micro and Small Enterprises of municipality. As for the technical procedures, the research is characterized as bibliographical and documentary, since it was based on existing materials, which are available for consultation. The data for the altainment of that in the were obtained in the Prefecture of the Municipality. After obtaining the data, they same werw analyzed based on the technique of content analysis. Through the results obtained it is observed an increase in the number of micro and small enterprises in the municipality over the years. They currently represent the majority of the formal enterprises of Cerro Largo/RS. The vast majority of Micro and Small Enterprises in the municipality are located in urban areas, however, there is also the presence of same in the rural areas. Predominantly in the municipality Micro and Small Enterprises within the sector trade, having also other activities subject to the rate of leasing, personnel work-professionals and self-employed professionals. The rural area whitch stimulates more the activities of trade and services explain and small number of firms in the sector of the industry. Although contribute significantly to the formation of the value added of the municipality, there is room for growth. Despite a higher concentration in the branch of trade, there is enough diversification of operations of MPEs in the city. This is important because in this way the locals need to seek less outside, which consequently will result in a recovery and local development. In this sense, the Micro and Small Enterprises constitute a foundation for the development, contributing to an improvement in people's lives.
