| Resume: | O artigo discute a importância de resultados de pesquisa sobre os sistemas dissipativos que se mantêm longe do equilíbrio para uma interpretação adequada da sociedade, entendida como um sistema evolutivo. De acordo com esta interpretação, argumenta-se que o desenvolvimento sustentável deve ser visto como um processo aberto cuja promoção deve incluir o estímulo às propriedades de caráter sistêmico das sociedades, como a liberdade substantiva dos indivíduos e a inteligência coletiva dos grupos sociais. |
| Abstract: | The article discusses the importance of research results about dissipative systems aiming a proper interpretation of society understood as an evolutionary system. In agreement with this interpretation, it argues that sustainable development should be taken as an open process, whose promotion should include the improvement of systemic properties in societies such as substantial freedom of people and collective intelligence of social groups. |
