Crenças e atitudes linguísticas de ítalo-descendentes no contato português/talian: contexto urbano e rural de Chapecó - SC

Abstract

Language and identity have close connection because it is by the language that people express their culture, customs, and traditions. According to this statement, our research aims to analyze linguistic data that indicate linguistic beliefs and attitudes toward Pt.-RS and talian in the urban and rural communities of Chapecó - SC. For that, our methodological theoretical contribution was based on Pluridimensional and Relational Dialectology. For the present research, 16 informants were selected, eight from the rural area and eight from the urban area of Chapecó. The dimensions considered for the study were: diatopic (analyzing the beliefs and attitudes regarding the use that each community makes of the language), diastratic (determined by the informant's education, being High class (Ca) informants with higher education, and Low class Cb) informants with low schooling up to high school); diagenerational (Generation II (GII) informants with 55 years of age or older and Generation I (GI) informants from 18 to 36 years old); diasexual (Man (H) and Woman (M)). Some criteria were used for the selection of informants: descendants of Italians, verified from the surname of father or mother and living in the research locality or at least ¾ of it and obligatorily in the last five (5) years. For the data collection, the dimension used was diaphasic, with two styles, reading and the questionnaire. The interview was composed by the metalinguistic questionnaire, adapted to the informants' reality and the reading made with a text written in three languages: Portuguese, Italian Standard and Talian. From this data, it was possible to analyze how much of the linguistic identity of the speakers is still preserved.
