Abstract: | The Atlantic Forest one of world biodiversity hotspots due to its great diversity and high number of endemic species, thus, it is one of the most important regions of the world for biodiversity conservation. This study aims to conduct a literature review regarding the conservation of the Atlantic Forest biome, as well as discuss the importance of landscape ecology in this highly fragmented biome. A review regarding basic concepts, as the Theory of Island Biogeography and historical and theoretical basis of Landscapes Ecology, is presented throughout the text. With this study, I understand that the Landscape Ecology has a fundamental role to understand and consequently reduce the anthropogenic changes in the natural landscapes of the Atlantic Forest, and the fragments that will maintain the native biodiversity are those of larger size and that are close of large areas of remaining forest. |
