O culto a São João Maria na região de Xanxerê-SC, e a sacralização de elementos naturais ligados ao Monge do Contestado

Abstract

This paper aims to present an analysis of places of worship to the Contested Monk and the holiness of natural elements attributed to myth, located in the region of Xanxerê - SC and also in the cities of Bom Jesus, Ipuaçu and Entre Rios. This research seeks to identify the importance and influence of the faith in São João Maria in the political, social, religious organization and the folk lore of the communities involved. Seeking understanding between the imaginary and religious syncretism by the local residents and the use of natural elements (caves, water fountains, prayers and blessings), as a determining factor in the community daily life and what this belief arouses among his followers that worship him until this date.
