Campinas do Sul: a hegemonia petebista/emedebista nos anos de 1959 a 1972

Abstract

Political hegemony, petebista/emedebista, in the early years of Campinas do Sul, occurred during a series of important events in the regional, state and national political conjuncture. From 1959, the year of the political-administrative emancipation of Campinas do Sul, until 1972, the last year of the administration elected in the 1968 election, the legality campaign took place at regional, state and national levels. Campaign that sought the legitimate possession of the elected Vice-President João Goulart, led by the then governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Leonel de Moura Brizola. Also in 1964 occurred the civil-military coup and its subsequent institutional acts and their consequences of violation of human rights. With all this political turmoil, Campinas do Sul was also the scene of inflamed speeches and the persecution and violation of civil liberties. With the present work, through the use of oral and documentary sources, it is sought to present the political environment in Campinas do Sul in the 1960s and the way in which petebista/emedebista hegemony occurred in the municipality, as well as violations of individual freedoms.
