Abstract: | Introduction: cerebrovascular disease is estimated to remain among the four leading causes of mortality by the year 2030. Objectives: To verify the prevalence of hospitalizations for stroke from 01/08/2016 to 08/01/2017 in a hospital in the northern state of Rio Grande do Sul and to analyze the profile of these patients. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out through 104 charts. The information was doubly typed in spreadsheet and later analyzed through the PSPP program. Results: the prevalence of hospitalizations for stroke was 0.56%, the frequency of stroke was higher in females (54.8%) and in the age group after age 60 (80.8%). The ischemic stroke (AVCI) was the most frequent (86.5%). Conclusion: there is an important number of hospitalizations for stroke. Therefore, by knowing the profile of the patients, the services can use the information to qualify the assistance and develop strategies of prevention and intervention with a view to reducing the cases of stroke. |
