Abstract/Resumen: The representation of rural slaughter in Chapecó-SC- 1960s and 1970s, and the construction of new sensitivities towards animals, carry far beyond the factual act of taking the life of an individual of another species, but rather its marks and its natural, temporal and procedural intersections, in which the look of environmental history guarantees the insertion of a multifocal analysis, through a bias capable of translating intrinsic complexity into themes so elementary to the territoriality of Brazil's southern frontier and at the same time multiscale. to global challenges, problems and prospects. The rural environment of Chapecó, as well as the entire western region of Santa Catarina, experienced a context of spatial reorganization, with variables and accelerated transformations in the 1960s and 1970s, as a developmental and integration project, in a confrontation between the traditional and the modern. With forces at work to modulate a new pattern of relationship between man and nature, but retaining the mentality of human predominance. It is worth remembering that in this period the endogenous forms of anthropic relationship developed in the forest were already reduced to a small fraction compared to the form of occupation and exploitation of the environment brought about by colonization. The western region had an environment already well modified by the colonization processes and exhaustive logging of the Mixed Ombrophilous Florest, which attracted and enabled the permanence and survival of human and non-human groups. The spatial reconfiguration of rural areas also confluent the transition from slaughter as an inherent part of rural daily life to the naturalization and acceptance of animal slaughter as a capital product. In this sense, the works of Thomas and Thompson, allowed the parallel of perceptions of mobility and transience of concepts and paradigms to identify the multiple factors that drove anthropic interactions and supported the perspective of human predominance and sensitivities in relation to animals, especially in antagonism between the uses and customs of traditional practices and values with modernization and scientific rationalism, marking the cultural memory and the memory of nature in the embodiment of the landscape. The traditional, the outdated and the modern constituted moving concepts, transient and full of simultaneously. With the reflections of Dias and Adams it was possible to identify in the traditional slaughter within the daily life of the rural and industrial families, innumerable relations, symbolic and power, their procedural, linguistic and audiovisual strategies, for metaphorical maintenance of domination and the removal of the idea. of death with imperative of absent referent. The methodology used ensured coherence with the second and third levels identified by Worster in the methodological systematization of Environmental History, as it compared the research in a regional newspaper of the period, Folha d'Oeste, with interviews with eight people who lived in rural areas in the region.. Thus emerges a sample of the representation of slaughter in the rural area of Chapecó and the historical construction of sensitivities regarding the animals of the period, as they were in the midst of the diversity of interactions that constituted this space called rural in its territorialization in the ways of life of different human subjects and groups that composed it and raised it as a plural field. Thus the slaughtering and construction of sensitivities towards human animals were grounded in the processes of meaning and resignification of nature in the history of anthropism at different scales.
