| Resume: | Investigar os fatores que constituem o desenvolvimento é um ofício substancial para a compreensão das diferenças de qualidade de vida entre as nações. Para Acemoglu e Robinson (2012), as instituições possuem um papel fundamental para o entendimento do desenvolvimento. Sendo as instituições os determinantes para a consolidação da prosperidade, o presente trabalho busca inferir o quanto a relação entre os conceitos de instituições políticas e econômicas inclusivas determinam o bem-estar e a prosperidade das nações. Para realizar tal empenho, a pesquisa se municiou de métodos quantitativos, usando de indicadores como o Index of Economic Freedom da Heritage Fundation, o Freedom in the World da Freedom House e o Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano do Programa das Nações Unidas para o Desenvolvimento como uma proxy para a seguinte hipótese: países mais livres, com instituições mais inclusivas, são também países que apresentam maior qualidade de vida para seus cidadãos. Para testá-la, empregamos os conceitos de Acemoglu e Robinson perante a literatura de Amartya Sen no entendimento de desenvolvimento e nação bem-sucedida, assim como elaboramos um banco de dados que abrange um total de 131 países. Os resultados apontam que países com maiores níveis de liberdade política e econômica tendem a possuir maior grau de desenvolvimento humano. |
| Abstract: | Investigating the factors that make development is a significant work for understanding the differences in quality of life between nations. For Acemoglu and Robinson (2012), institutions are a key to understanding development. As the institutions are the decisive for the consolidation of prosperity, the present work seeks to infer how much the ratio between the concepts of inclusive political and economic institutions determines the well-being and prosperity of nations. To carry out such an effort, the research provided quantitative methods, using indicators such as Index of Economic Freedom of Heritage Fundation, Freedom in the World of Freedom House and the Human Development Index of United Nations Development Programme as a proxy for the following hypothesis: freer countries, with more inclusive institutions, are also countries that have a higher quality of life for their citizens. To test it, we employ Acemoglu and Robinson's concepts in the literature of Amartya Sen in the understanding of development and successful nation, as well we elaborate a database covering a total of 131 countries. The results indicate that countries with higher levels of political and economic freedom usually have a higher degree of human development. |
