O perfil de consumo dos indígenas e a produção de resíduos na Aldeia Trevo – terra indígena Rio das Cobras - Paraná

Abstract

This research was aimed at identifying the indigenous consumption profile and analyzing the destination of the waste from products consumed by the Kaingang people in the Aldeia Trevo – Rio das Cobras Indigenous Land, located in the city of Nova Laranjeiras (Parana, Brazil). Ten interviews were performed in Kaingang language in all the six communities of the aldeia. The interviews happened in February and March 2018. The field research was conducted in order to identify and register photographically the existing wastes in the aldeia, as well as to obtain information about the subject of the research. The indigenous families are increasing their consumption of manufactured products and this has been enlarging the waste generation, given that many of these materials, such as plastic packaging, end up burnt or thrown close to the residences. Thus, the incorrect destinations of the waste promote ecological impact and may contribute to the spread of diseases. The research has shown the need of selective garbage collection in the indigenous area as an alternative to reduce the aforementioned issues.
