Abstract: In the beginning, what was considered art were the manifestations related to dance, sculpture, literature, music, painting and theater. Then to the movies, and other things came up. Comics are the ninth art. With this caveat, I present the analysis and interpretation of the Novel Novel V of Revenge, by Alan Moore and David Lloyd, under the perceptive criteria of Will Eisner and Scott McCloud, in understanding this art as being a graphic narrative language, an idiomatic system which combines juxtaposed and deliberate sequence images and words with the intention of communicating something. I understand the comics in this way and this principle permeates the whole problem proposed, which is to understand how the mask originated from the Graphic Novel V of Vendetta, used by the anarchist libertarian codenamed "V", was object of a representative symbolic appropriation of social contestation. I carry out such an undertaking by analyzing the context of the development of comics as Sequential Art, demonstrating, in V for Vendetta, its idiomatic structure, its interpretable content and the use that the cultural artifact Mask of Guy Fawkes obtained mainly between 2008 and 2013. To read V of Vendetta, the method proposed by Umberto Eco was used to analyze the circularity between text, context and intertextuality before the articulation of an encyclopedic knowledge. I demonstrated, therefore, a process of decoding history, but more than that, the understanding of its theoretical content, libertarian and anarchist through the analysis of the character "V." Added to this was the critical appreciation of the mask used in various demonstrations and by numerous protesters in different parts of the world - also reaching notoriety in Brazil - due to its use in the events of 2013, known as Days of June.
