Avaliação da qualidade de vida e comprometimento funcional em pacientes com fibromialgia

Abstract

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Given the persistent pain, physical and psychological strain caused by fibromyalgia, and once its prevalence is around 5% in the world population, this study aimed to investigate the functional and biopsychosocial impairment of this group focusing on their quality of life; functional impairment; and in addition, it aims to observe the possible correlation between pain and social, emotional and psychological factors in patients with this disease, such as symptoms of depression, anxiety and the prevalence of daily thoughts about pain and its degree. METHODS: this is a cross-sectional study in which a group of 30 participants from a fibromyalgia association selected in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul state - all diagnosed with fibromyalgia - where self-administered questionnaires containing the SF 36 instrument, Beck Questionnaire for Depression (BDI), Beck Questionnaire for Anxiety (BAI) and a personalized questionnaire about socioeconomic, anthropometric characteristics with the related perception of pain in these patients were distributed. Subsequently, data collection and analysis was carried out. RESULTS: it was shown that most of the participants had low scores related to quality of life and functional impairment; depressive and anxious symptoms were common within the group at mild and moderate levels; while the perception and graduation of pain averaged 7 hours a day with an 8 degree in scale, respectively. CONCLUSION: there was a concrete impact on quality of life, functional impairment and the presence of biopsychosocial limitations within the fibromyalgia population, what reveals an important health care demand.
