Manejo da emergência psiquiátrica pelas equipes dos centros de atenção psicossocial (CAPS)

Abstract

Attention to the mental health crisis in Brazil is still a challenge for the care model that brought the Psychiatric Reform, based on intersectoral care and bringing patients closer to their family and community context. In this circumstance, this final paper discusses how psychiatric emergency management is carried out by teams from the Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS) in a medium-sized city in the north of Rio Grande do Sul, with the aim of analyzing whether there are protocols that assist the care and what the possible difficulties of the management are. The study, defined as a qualitative research, has used a semi-structured interview as the methodological instrument, applied to a multidisciplinary team from the CAPS from August to November 2020. The interviews were recorded and kept in a digital file, with subsequent data transcription and material analysis through thematic analysis, seeking to interpret the results and not just describe them. From that, it was identified that the assistance to psychiatric patients in acute situations finds some weaknesses, the main ones being: the lack of a protocol that directs care, training and continuing education for CAPS employees and the lack of co-responsibility among the health sectors. As a result, it is verified that the handling of the attention to the crisis is configured as an obstacle to the integrality of the care that the Reformation advocates, being necessary a better articulation between the health systems and greater investments in training and education, in order to build response to the crisis attention in mental health, in an integral and continuous way.
