A atuação do enfermeiro no centro cirúrgico: percepções do cuidado durante a experiência cirúrgica

Abstract

The Surgical Center is considered one of the most complex units of a hospital for its wide specificity, place of great stress and life threatening. The work performed by nurses in the operating room remains focused on performing procedures and providing materials, and management, sometimes remaining distant from the nursing care they need. Given the complexity of the operating room and the importance of nursing care for surgical patients, the role of the nurse fits. This research addresses the role of nurses in the operating room and their perceptions of care during the surgical experience. The general objective of the study is to understand how the care provided by the Nurse of the Surgical Center during the surgical experience is given in a hospital in the west of Santa Catarina. To meet this proposition, a qualitative and descriptive research was carried out, with an ethnographic study, and for data collection, a semi-structured interview was used, and participant observation, in a group of nurses, who volunteered to participate in the research. For such investigation, it was necessary fundamental attitudes such as openness, flexibility, observation and interaction skills, allowing entering its universe and understanding its meanings. Given this, it was found that that the nurse's care within the CC is still very fragile that due to the great demand from the administrative and bureaucratic part, it takes most of the nurses' time leaving the patient more vulnerable, which imposes the realization that when the care happens it is effective in the care. However, the lack of staff and high productivity in this sector ends up leaving it in the background, and thus patient care ends up not happening the way it is advocated.
