Abstract/Resumen: The main objective of this dissertation is to investigate what it means to know. It is based on the assumption that knowledge is true belief justified. However, we ask ourselves: is there another definition of knowledge, beyond the traditional definition, that allows to include the objects of art? What is the contribution of art to education? Therefore, our work is divided into three chapters, which are: 1) The traditional definition of knowledge; 2) The linguistic turn in knowledge; and 3) Art and knowledge. The first chapter deals with the origin of the tripartite definition of knowledge as a true belief justified from Plato, going through the perspectives that modern thought, especially René Descartes and Immanuel Kant, dealt with human knowledge. The second chapter deals with the linguistic twist in philosophical thought, which detaches itself from the transcendental paradigm of knowledge to evidence the role of language in the process of knowledge production, in the light of Ludwig Wittgenstein's thinking. In addition, it brings into question the validity and limits of the traditional definition of knowledge through the theoretical legacy of Edmund Gettier and Nelson Goodman, with a view to a new perspective of knowledge through understanding. In the third chapter, from the conception of knowledge as an understanding, one reflects on the importance that art can have for the field of education at its different levels, taking as reference the thought of Elliot W. Eisner. The established relationship between art and education shapes the interdisciplinary perspective of this research. Thus, art, as well as science and philosophy, is also a type of knowledge, which gives us the widening of our understanding of the world, and, because of this, has the same epistemological value of the other areas of human knowledge.
