Author: Fernandes, Rafaela Amadeu
First advisor: Cattelam, Jonatas
Abstract: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the addition of acetylsalicylic acid in the feed of piglets in the nursery phase, with the reduction of deleterious effects of weaning, decreasing an increase in diarrhea and other illnesses, consequently positively affecting the weight gain of the piglets. piglets until their second week of the nursery phase. Eighty piglets of the Agroceres PIC® strain were used, weaned at 28 days old, separated by sex and divided into four groups with 20 animals each. Piglets were divided into males receiving AAS, containing AAS, males not receiving AAS and breeding without receiving AAS. The drug was provided along with a feed at the rate of 0.5 gram per kilogram of feed to the groups that received AAS for five uninterrupted days, while the other piglets received only feed. The evaluations were carried out in the nursery phase, evaluating the performance of the piglets and indicators of clinical diarrhea or pneumonia. At 42 days of age for piglets, piglet weights were 9.8 kg for animals that received ASA, and 10.3 kg for pigs that did not receive medication. The frequency of diarrhea for males anti-treated with ASA and without ASA was 10%, and in the group of males without ASA, 15% of the animals had diarrhea. The use of Acetylsalicylic Acid in the feed of newly weaned piglets did not interfere with the performance of pigs in the first two weeks of weaning, nor did it prevent the occurrence of pneumonia and diarrhea in piglets.
