A agroecologia no MST: uma experiência histórica no Oeste de Santa Catarina

Abstract

This undergraduate thesis presents the results obtained through research for the History course at Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul, Campus Chapecó. For the development of this study, we sought to answer the following research problem: how was the introduction and practices of agroecology in MST settlements in the western region of Santa Catarina between the 1990s and 2010s? Therefore, it was decided to carry out a qualitative research, aiming to observe very particular aspects of the reality experienced in settlements located in the municipalities of Passos Maia and Chapecó. The geographic focus of this study is the West region of Santa Catarina, having as time frame the period between the 1990s and 2010. For the development of the research, Environmental History and Low View History were used as a theoretical-methodological approach. According to the bibliographical and documentary research results, it is indicated that agroecology presents itself as a definition of the movement since the 4th National Congress held in Brasília in 2000. It is an important direction for the settled families to produce in a sustainable way. However, in the research developed, numerous difficulties for implementation were identified, including economic issues, as well as the presence of agricultural modernization in people's daily lives, including in the reality of settled families. Even with all this advance of capital and the lack of public policies, agroecology aimed actions are still presented in the region and we hope that the discussions proposed in this study, considering the historical recovery carried out, can be expanded even further.
