Entre "irmãos": representações de masculinidades negras em disputa no rap de Bluesman (2018)

Abstract

This study is an analysis on the representations of black masculinities in dispute present in the album Bluesman (2018) and in the persona of its creator, the rapper soteropolitano Baco Exu do Blues. Therefore, we mainly use the crossing between the album and other media sources, especially interviews, in order to map Baco’s story and observe how the identity intersections assumed central role and organized the construction of his black masculinity, his projections of success and his desire to be seen contrarily to stereotypical representations that fall upon black men. The nature of the concerned object demands interdisciplinarity, taken in this monograph as one aspect of a decolonial project of knowledge. Regarding this, the contribution offered by the Social Sciences - particularly the Cultural Studies and the writings by the sociologist Stuart Hall - the articulation of the black feminist theoretical-political sensitivity and the association with the theoretical methodologies used in the History of Present Time were of great value to the advancement of this research. We have verified that both the album and the persona allow us to find subjectivities in black masculinities which were significantly forgotten in the debates about masculinities, and to mention them becomes an act against colonialism.
