Abstract: | The study aims to scrutinize the megafauna mammals during the Pleistocene epoch in the southern region of Brazil and the objective dissemination of the Paleontological Heritage of the region. The work involves surveys and bibliographic analyzes found in several sources, such as: Google Scholar, Capes's journal portal, ResearchGate and academia.edu, to understand the species to generate cartographic productions for the area of study. The results record nine orders (Artiodactyla, Carnívora, Cingulata, Litopterna, Notoungulata, Perissodactyla, Pilosa, Proboscidea, Rodentia) that comprise a total of sixteen families (Cervidae, Felidae, Otariidae, Ursidae, Dasypodidae, Glyptodontidae, Pampatheriidae, Macraucheniidae, Toxodontidae, Equidae, Tapiridae, Megatheriidae, Mylodontidae, Gomphotheriidae, Caviidae) of mammals. Thirteen families became extinct during the transition from the Pleistocene to the Holocene and another three families are remnants of the transition and have remained until the present day. |
