Sofrimento mental e consumo de substâncias psicoativas entre estudantes universitários

Abstract

The study evaluated the mental suffering and the pattern of tobacco and alcohol use among other substances of undergraduate students at the Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul. This is a cross-sectional quantitative research carried out on all six UFFS campuses. All students over 18 years of age with active enrollment in the first semester of 2021 were selected. The sample comprised 323 participants. Data collection was carried out online between November and December 2021 through elements of scales validated for Brazil, namely: Self-Reporting Questionnaire; Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test and Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test and Mini inventory neuropsychiatric interview-mini. The results were submitted to statistical analysis and will be available to the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies and to the Dean of Student Affairs; published in scientific events and forwarded to journals. 323 responses were obtained from students, most of the participants being female, Catholic and working informally and coming from cities that do not have a UFFS campus. A large consumption of several substances was identified, highlighting the use of alcohol, 93.8% had used it at least once, and the most used illicit drug is marijuana 146 (45.2%), it is also evidenced the large number of students in mental distress (56%) and student with high chances of committing suicide (16.7%). When parametric tests were performed, the positive interaction of marijuana use in the chance of developing mental suffering, chances of suicide and greater relationship with alcohol consumption was concluded. At the end of the research, it was possible to conclude the need for programs to reduce damages in substance consumption and to develop projects and places for dialogue about mental suffering and suicide, in addition, it is necessary to repeat this study to verify the reality of undergraduate students. , if interventions occu.
