Abstract

The present work search study and understand the role of faith from the conceptions of Sigmund Freud at work The future of an Illusion published in 1927. The research is structured in next form: In the first chapter is presented the understanding of the definition to faith, which described by Freud as civilization builder, behavior restriction creator for biological impulses, sapience that surpasses reason, protection of humanity's oldest feelings. In the second chapter seeks to present the mode of the author understands the conception of illusion, like this to show cause of relief for the human helplessness. In the third chapter seeks bring some important information in relation to emergence of the religious phenomenon, points up the justification for the need for behavior restrictions, the role that faith occupy before civilization and the mode it manifests in culture keeping a cycle status. Lastly, we problematize the theme and Freudian's proposal from replacement of faith by science like this the treatment of it by psychoanalysis using some appointments of psychoanalysts Pfister and Kristeva that helped to understand the phenomenon of faith in Freud.
