Gaúcho bagual, másculo e viril: reflexões sobre a identidade masculina Rio-Grandense nas músicas tradicionalistas

Abstract

The present work aims to investigate the elements that permeate the construction and legitimization of the gaúcho man identity, as a follower of the traditionalist gaúcha culture. In this process, the social-historic dimensions and the power relations become the focus of attention once we verify how the representational tendencies, fomented by the cultural production, construct and/or interfere with the characterization, circulation and constitution of the social imaginary around such identity. We have appropriated bibliographic revision as the methodology for the theoretical foundation, and the techniques of Content Analysis to study the selected songs, all under the “tradicionalista” genre, which belongs to the gaúcho cultural universe. With the present research, we have been able to verify that the identity construction of the traditionalist gaúcho man is constantly reaffirmed and fixated through representative musical apparatuses.
