Abstract: | According to the National Water Resources Policy established by Law 9433/97, water is a public good, and all individuals have the right to use it. There are multiple processes of water treatment, which are necessary for the population to have safe access to this resource, and each process adopted for public supply considers the specificities linked to water quality at the supply site. In this sense, the present study aimed to identify the different processes of water purification in the municipalities of the state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS), organized according to the region and Regional Development Councils (COREDES) belonging to them. To this end, a survey of information published in electronic media was carried out, considering especially, the Municipal Plans of Basic Sanitation of each municipality in the state of RS, websites of city halls, site of the Riograndense Company of Sanitation (CORSAN) and the site Contextualized Information on Sanitation in Brazil (INFOSANBAS) for the purpose of identifying the processes applied to the potabilization of water in the municipalities of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (RS). The results obtained from the study showed a high rate of treatment being carried out by simplified methods, both in rural areas covering 16.1% (80) of the municipalities, and in urban areas where 24.1% (120) of the municipalities adhere to the system. However, there was a high lack of information regarding the treatment performed, mainly in the rural area of the municipality, totaling 82.29% (409) of the municipalities. |
