Abstract: | The early neonatal mortality is an important health indicator as it reflects the well-being of pregnant women and newborns. The objective is to estimate the coefficient of early neonatal mortality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS) in the period from 2010 to 2019 and characteristic as epidemiological characteristics of live newborns (NBs) who died between 0 and 6 days of life according to each macro-region of the state, maternal characteristics and type of delivery. An ecological, descriptive and exploratory study, with secondary data, collected from the Information Technology Department of the Unified Health System. in addition to a southern macro-region, it has the highest coefficient of 6,43/1.000 inhabitants. Male (55.2%) and white-skinned NBs (85%) were predominant. As mothers aged between 20- 29 years (42.7%) and education between 8-11 years (44.4%). There was a higher frequency of cesarean delivery with 54.2%. An analysis of sociodemographic characteristics related to this coefficient in each macro-region helps in the planning of public policies aimed at the prenatal period, childbirth and the newborn. |
