Síndrome respiratória aguda grave em idosos de Passo Fundo - RS, no ano de 2020

Abstract

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) is one of the most worrying respiratory diseases, characterized by a flu-like condition associated with tachypnea or hypoxemia, with less than 95% saturation in room air. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, an exponential growth was observed in cases, with the elderly being the most affected population group. This study aimed to describe the reported cases of SARS, as well as the sociodemographic and health factors associated with death in the elderly population of a municipality in the north of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. This is a descriptive and analytical observational study. , carried out from the analysis of data from the Influenza Epidemiological Surveillance Information System. The information was made available by the Municipal Health Department of the municipality of Passo Fundo and covered the period from January 1 to December 31, 2020. In the descriptive analysis of the data, the distribution of absolute (n) and relative (%) frequencies was performed. variables of interest. In the analysis of associated factors, crude and adjusted odds ratios were estimated using Logistic Regression. In the period analyzed, a total of 1268 notifications of SARS in the elderly were observed, with 72% caused by COVID-19. The observed lethality was high (40.9%), mainly among men and with low education, with the presence of some risk factor determining death, especially chronic kidney disease. It is expected that the associations evidenced in this work can help in the planning, management and evaluation of health policies and actions aimed at the health of the elderly, especially through the strengthening of actions in primary care in the municipality in question.
