Da narrativa à ação em Hannah Arendt: por uma dimensão ética da narr[a]tividade

Abstract

This dissertation aims at searching for a possible ethical-political dimension of narr[a]tivity in Hannah Arendt. To this end, some questions guide us. Is there a distance between discourse and narrative in Arendt's work? How would the passage from narrative to action take place and why is storytelling an ethical dimension of narrative? In this direction, in the first chapter we will address narrative. That is, the intersubjective constitution of narrative. In an attempt to answer, we seek, in the first part of the text, to understand what distinguishes narrative from discourse in Hannah Arendt's works, by engaging narrative as a medium that consents durability to events that, between life and death, are brief, ephemeral, momentary, and can only be converted into stories at the end of the action. In the second chapter, we examine how the totalitarian event, in its originality, annihilates the liberating and spontaneous brevity of action and discourse and, by implication, annuls narrative possibility. In the third chapter, we seek to reach in Arendt the purpose of maintaining the immortality of narrative. We call narr[a]tivity the weft of human relations that, given the transient fragility of actions and discourses, turns stories into a kind of exercise that remains in time, at the same time that we call ethical dimension the desire to, at each new beginning and without predictable results, shed light on the thoughts of those who listen and act in their free responsibility to continue, out of love, to care for the world.
