Cuidados paliativos em atenção domiciliar no SUS: atendimentos prestados a crianças, adolescentes e adultos jovens

Abstract

Background: Palliative care consists of comprehensive care with the aim of maintaining quality of life. There are specific needs for younger ages and, over the years, changes in health policies have become necessary to serve this population, offering a better quality of life. Objective: To know the reality of the state of Santa Catarina in relation to the offer of palliative care services in pediatric young adult oncology treatment, at home, as well as the coverage of assistance by health region. Method: This is an ecological, descriptive study with secondary data from the Ambulatory Information System (SIA/SUS) and Hospital Information System (SIH/SUS), free available by the Department of Informatics of the Brazilian Unified Health System (DATASUS), for the state of Santa Catarina, in the years 2018 to 2021. The records of care offered for the age groups from 0 to 29 years old were investigated. To characterize palliative care, the name already presented in the literature was followed, using procedures performed at home. Results: The Greater Florianópolis Macro-region was the only one to present a Hospital Admission Authorization corresponding to home hospitalization during the study period. In general, there was a decrease in attendances during the year 2020. In addition, it can be identified that during the four years of the study, the largest number of procedures was registered in the Midwest and Serra Catarinense, in the year 2018. Conclusion: Carrying out the study made it possible to deepen knowledge and identify disparities between the population's coverage and access to this type of care in the state of Santa Catarina.
