Análise geográfica do ordenamento territorial de Chapecó: a subdivisão do espaço urbano

Abstract

Territorial planning can be understood as the management of the interaction between humans and space. Among the objectives of this planning, we can mention the subdivision of space into areas, aimed at defining a unit. These units can be zones with predominant land use, districts, or neighborhoods. When subdividing a city into neighborhoods, the municipal administration takes actions that promote differentiation of a specific area from its neighboring parts. Depending on how this is done, some issues might arise in addressing, road signage, advertising placement, and the sense of community belonging. It is around this question that this research develops, aiming to analyze how the delineation of neighborhoods in Chapecó city is planned and how it is manifested in the geographic space through elements of territorial organization. In order to do so, an analysis of the Master Plan from 2014 was combined with e-mail talks with agents who define Chapecó's urban spatial configuration. Additionally, legislations related to territorial planning was reviewed, as well as a bibliographic revision of the underlying concepts. It was also necessary to analyze maps from various sources that helped understand the chronological evolution of the subdivision of neighborhoods in Chapecó. Thus, the goal is to contribute to the debate on planning and territorial organization, demonstrating how the choice of political-administrative subdivisions of cities impacts the geographical construction of this territory.
