A dimensão ética da ipseidade em Paul Ricoeur

Abstract

The present text is the composition of a hermeneutic research, in general, related to the theory of the subject. The object of study, used as a foundation for the text, is the book called “The Self as Another”, by the French intellectual and hermeneutic Paul Ricoeur. Jean Paul Gustave Ricoeur, was born in the city of Valence in France, in 1913. During his journey, he acted professionally as a professor of Philosophy, developed important research in the areas of hermeneutics and epistemology, was a prisoner during the second world war and at 92 years old, while residing in the city of Châtenay-Malabry in Paris, he died. In the first lines of the dissertation, what the reader will be able to observe, are reverberations of the hermeneutic research, as well as, the way in which the subject can be understood as a subject, mainly, after the process of the identifying reference. Subsequently, with the theory of enunciation, it is possible to understand how the subject is included in enunciations, precisely the enunciations which make up the narrative theory, and the way in which he has part of his compiled identity. In the last chapter, what I try to demonstrate is exactly the ethical dimension of identity as selfhood and also the space in which it is developed. Moreover, the text is a great allusion to the deconstruction of an old theory of the subject that, from Paul Ricoeur's point of view, must be effective. The theory of the subject, which has been presumed since the modern age, by the also French intellectual René Descartes, is responsible for the development of the Cogito Ergo Sum, which later on, under the influence of Paul Ricoeur and other intellectuals, came to be transform into the broken Cogito (brisé) or wounded Cogito (blessé), in a radical attempt to give solipsism a new face.
