O curso de Letras na Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná: "um estranho no ninho"?

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the discourse of technology and the discourse of tradition materialized in the institutional documents of Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná (UTFPR) – Pato Branco campus and the bachelor’s degree in Language Portuguese - English, focused on teacher training, offered by university. It also seeks to understand how the meanings to education, work and technology are affiliated with the discourse about language, in the institutional documents of the degree in language. The research file consists of the following documents: PDI – UTFPR’s Institutional Development Plan, PPI - UTFPR’s Institutional Political- Pedagogical Project, PAC – UTFPR’s Project of Opening the Bachelor’s Degree in Language Portuguese - English and PPC - UTFPR’s Pedagogical Project of the Bachelor’s Degree Language Portuguese - English, from Pato Branco campus. The theoreticalmethodological perspective of Discourse Analysis (AD) in dialogue with the History of Linguistic Ideas (HIL) is fundamental in this research, in which it was mobilized the discourse notions (paraphrase and polysemy), production conditions, ideology, ideological and discursive formations, memory, interdiscourse and intradiscourse and notions of language. It started from the consolidated sayings in the speeches of Technological Education in Brazil, where in works the notion of technology meaning as a specialized knowledge, that produces solutions to problems, and that has its uses and functions. In these production conditions, the Language degree would be taken as strange to the environment of an institution that is said technology. However, the analysis of the documents leads us to a theoretical choice within the Linguistics that means language as a tool, with its uses and functions, the mediator between subject and reality. Thus, the Language Degree, before regarded as a "odd man out" is justified as technological and gain ground in UTFPR, an university that assert itself in its discourse while traditionally technological.
