A gestão democrática na escola e a saúde mental do professor

Abstract

The number of teachers on leave due to psychological and psychiatric issues has increased in recent years. Discussions about the health and illness process in the school environment are fundamental. It is known that the quality of mental health can be improved when workers feel like they belong to the collective at work and find a space where they can share their ideas. Thus, this article aims to investigate the relationship between the teacher's mental health (main reasons cited as a source of illness) and democratic management as a possibility for a reflective and participatory space at school that can produce mental health. The methodology used consisted of a qualitative approach and bibliographical research in relation to its object of investigation. The results show that fatigue, stress, political and cultural issues of the organization, insecurity, overload due to gender issues, the Covid-19 pandemic and lack of recognition are reasons that lead teachers to become mentally ill. Finally, there is a discussion of the need to think about the health of teachers, and that democratic management can be a way to make the subject feel part of the school in decision-making and collective construction, thus contributing to the health at school.
